It does not suffice to regulate the oxygen in a fish farm without considering the other dissolved gases. This can lead to serious fish diseases like swollen gills (alkalosis and acidosis) and gas bubble disease and opens the door for viruses and bacteria.
In over 90% of all fish farms world wide the oxygen is regulated without considering the other dissolved gases. This has very often lethal consequences for the fish or causes serious diseases where the farmer does not understand their incurrence. It is very common that the important carbon dioxide is being stripped by mistake. If you don't know your nitrogen levels , a light over saturation of oxygen can already cause gas bubble disease as the total gas pressure gets much too high. Some scientists meanwhile believe that 80% of the diseases in a fish farm can be traced back to the wrong composition of gases.
